Lae Fight fighters put on Live Fire Drill

Preparations for the APEC Meeting have begun with fire fighters conducting training drills today in Lae.

The drill was conducted to assess fitness of fire fighters in preparation for the 2018 meeting.

The Superintendent for Lae Fire Station, Bal Kenna said despite limited resources, Lae’s fire fighters want to be prepared to meet developments.

The fire fighters began with a running exercise. It was conducted to assess the fitness of the fire fighters.

Handling of ladder was also part of the exercise, as it is important to know how to handle and use ladders when rescuing a victim from fire.

The roof of the now very old Fire building was used as a second floor of a building where the fire fighters attended to a victim unconscious and trapped inside the building.

There are currently 14 fire fighters in Lae, including two women.

Janet Noah has been working as a fire fighter in Lae for seven years. She has attended to a number of fire emergency cases.

They have been practicing the drill since January this year.
