The people of the Koki and Wanigela community were in a celebratory on the evening of March 4, 2019 as landowners signed their land title certificates, officially making them land title holders in Motu Koita.
Signed, sealed and delivered; celebrations continued into the night with a fireworks display as the Koki and Wanigela community exuberantly welcomed the signing of their title as certified landowners of their village with the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
The entire village turned up in numbers to witness this momentous occasion go down in history as the day the community gained ownership in black and white over what is duly theirs.
The Moresby South MP said leadership is key and the people of Moresby South and Motu Koita can expect more engagement, growth and development in the next five years. This is as long as they continue to work in partnership with NCD and his department.
Present also was NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, who challenged the community to upgrade and improve their standard of living; and to promote community cleanliness and awareness as their population continues to grow every year.
He adds that other plans are underway to include a pathway and sewerage sanitation system for the community.
