A court decision to pay a Koiari landowner group has been questioned.
Frustrated Koiari landowners have petitioned the Government seeking answers to why the group was paid K10 million.
Many expressed disappointment for the recent payment of K10 million.
The K10 million payment was an order from the Court’s.
Trade Commerce Minister Wera Mori received the petition on behalf of the Government. This is not the first petition Koiari landowners have presented to the Government.
So far 3 petitions have been presented between 2014 and 2017.
The Koiari landowners believe their concerns have been overlooked by the Government. However nearly K45 million has been paid to different groups in the last 10 years.
A Community leader says it time Koiari people identify the different land groups.
Receiving the petition, Trade Commerce Minister Wera Mori said the plight of the Koiari people is significant and NEC will be deliberating on the points raised.
After receiving the petition from the landowners, Minister Wera Mori said an entity must be established for the Koiari people.
He said this will avoid minority groups to petition the Government over in-house issues.
A meeting will be held this Wednesday to establish the Koiari Authority.
