Karate Kid: Vincent Bougen

Vincent Bougen from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville is one of Papua New Guinea’s sport ambassadors, representing the country in karate.

Vincent made the decision to train in the Martial arts at an early age.

Bougen was scouted during the 2012 PNG Games in East New Britain Province. This opened the pathway for him.
It was his first time to compete in an international sporting event like the Pacific Games. He managed the title of being a medalist.

Fighting against some of the best, was part of fulfilling his dream of representing the country one day.

“It was not work at all but passion,” said Bougen.

Bougainville also has some piece of mind for athletes. Bougen has represented the country in several International fights after the Pacific Games. These were in Japan including the recent Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

He said it was about sheer hard work, commitment and determination including discipline which is healthy for breaking national and even world records.
