Kabwum Health Center Continue to Lose Patients because of Lack of Power and Human Resource

By Lucy Kopana – EM TV News, Lae

Health workers in the Kabwum District continue to work under difficult conditions.

Apart from the medicine and supply shortages they have been having, the health centers lack electricity and human resources to carry out health services effectively.

Nursing officer at the Kabwum Health Center, Narito Oki said because there is no electricity, they find it difficult to treat asthma patients, who need to be put on the nebulizer.

“Em save givim had taim long ol staff blo mipela ol staff long hia, sampela taim mipela sa struggle long usim ol foot pump… I ken takim almost wan hour long pumpim.”

More than twenty aid posts set up in the district are not operating because there are no staff. The lack of access to roads make it difficult for patients to get to the health centers.

Health workers on the ground say, they continue to lose patients, because of these problems.
