K1.5 million boosts for redevelopment of Kiunga airport terminal

Civil and associated technical work will immediately commence for the construction of a new, modern state of the art Kiunga Airport terminal in the North Fly Electorate of Western Province.

Utility North Fly MP James Donald was in Kiunga last Friday to officially present K1.5 million counterpart funding from the North Fly District Development Authority (NFDDA)to AGL Builders Limited which will be the contractor responsible for the immediate delivery of this impact project.

Donald told his people and those invited important dignitaries present that for far too long Kiunga airport had no proper airport and terminal facilities as it was the main transit airport of entry for OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) employees, other general operations of the mine, and for the public to use.

The new airport terminal will be equipped with the latest scanning and detecting device that will be used to clamp on a large number of illicit drugs currently being smuggled into the province and the electorate as there are no security features to help curb this problem. Other security, safety, and convey features of a modern terminal infrastructure will be included forthwith.

Donald sincerely thanked the PNG Sustainable Development Program (PNGSDP) Limited for continuously prioritizing the social, infrastructural, and economic development of Western Province and this time partnering with the NFDDA to deliver this impact project.

The Kiunga airport and terminal redevelopment is a strategic public-private partnership between PNGSDP Limited and NFDDA with PNGSDP Limited committing approximately K4 million to ensure the successful completion of this major impact project.
