Respect Migrants, says Catholic faithful

The asylum seekers still in Manus and Port Moresby, under any circumstances should be accorded the respect they deserve.

And under human rights, their cases should be treated with dignity and justice.

This call has been reiterated by Pope Francis during his Christmas Eve Mass, saying immigrants must be respected because they are part of the global community.

Th Pontiff called a ‘new social imagination’ in which none have to feel that there is no room for them on this earth.

Clement Kapapal from the Saint Mary’s Parish in Port Moresby said the Pope’s call comes in the right time, because Papua New Guinea houses some of these migrants.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands is also advocating on the proper treatment of Manus asylum seekers.
