Northern Governor, Gary Juffa, wants the responsible government agencies to arrest and prosecute those practising illegal logging in the country.
Governor Juffa says if the Government is serious in stopping illegal logging, prosecution must be exercised.
Juffa says authorities responsible have been very slow with many cases outstanding. Juffa urged authorities not to turn a blind eye on complaints raised by the public over illegal logging.
With Northern seeing a lot of illegal logging, Governor Juffa says the system used to crackdown on illegal loggers is very poor.
He says in one case, nearly K3million worth of logs is in the process of being shipped out.
Juffa says responsible agencies must act quickly. 85 % of the PNG’s total landmass is covered with forest.
With PNG’s culture closely tied to the environment, Governor Juffa says the forest must be protected. He called on the Government to strengthen its arm of justice.
