Jessica Mauboy For PNG Games

One of the biggest stars in Australian pop music, Jessica Mauboy, will perform at the Opening Ceremony of the 6th PNG Games on the 15th of November.

Her performance will be the highlight of a four-day visit to Lae that will also include appearances at the Games Hub and VIP areas, a performance at a Gala Dinner, along with recording a jingle with leading PNG musician Jokema.

The singer/songwriter is having a remarkable 2014. In May she made history at the Eurovision Song Contest by becoming the first solo artist from outside Europe to make a guest appearance.

It has also been announced that in August, she will perform during the Commonwealth Games Flag Handover Ceremony to mark the official handover from Glasgow to 2018 host city, the Gold Coast.

In her short career, Jessica Mauboy has already registered 2.1 million sales in Australia, achieving 11 hit singles and two ARIA awards. She also starred in the 2012 film, The Sapphires.

Since 2013, she has been an ambassador of Yipirinya School, a bi-lingual and bi-cultural independent Aboriginal school that caters for children from the town camps and outstations of Alice Springs.

In making the announcement, Chairman of the PNG Games Phil Franklin said: ‘It is a major coup for the PNG Games to secure an artist of the calibre of Jessica Mauboy.

She will be the highest profile performer to visit Lae in living memory. Her appearance at the Opening Ceremony will set the tone for a marvellous festival of sport, culture and entertainment.’
