Indefinite Load Shedding in Vanimo

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

Business houses and residents in Vanimo town in West Sepik, will be experiencing load shedding for an indefinite period.

This follows a short fall in the town’s generation capacity. The short fall is a direct result of the maintenance work being carried out on three generators.

Because of this, PNG Power is able to supply only 700 kilo watts to a total demand of 1.2 Mega Watts.

The load shedding will continue until spare parts of the generators are flown into Vanimo to fix the three generators that have failed.

PNG Power is expecting one generator to come online next week. This generator will supply 800kw to consumers and is also expected to relief the load shedding.

Two other two generators will start operating in December. In the meantime PNG Power is now advising business houses and residents in Vanimo to use standby generators during the load shedding.
