Stakeholders from across the Fisheries Sector have gathered in Port Moresby for the Inaugural Pacific Seafood & Technology Expo.
The event, which began today, features major players within the Fisheries sector, as well as the growing number of Fisheries SMEs.
Fisheries Minister, Patrick Basa, officially opened the Expo.
With the theme “Connecting the World To Pacific Seafood” the Expo has been fortunate enough to attract exhibitors from throughout Papua New Guinea, as well as from a few Regional participants.
And for Papua New Guinea’s Fisheries Industry Association, given the current difficult economic circumstances in PNG, they have used the expo to also highlight what needs to be done to ensure that the Fisheries industry continues to succeed.
PNG FIA representative, Fabian Chow, called on the government to reconsider its taxation measures to create a conducive environment for the industry, and especially Fisheries SME’s to get off the ground.
The expo, which concludes on Thursday, provides a snapshot into what the Fisheries sector’s current contributions, as well as the potential for the industry to go to the next level through using cutting edge technology.
