The SP Hunters defeated the Tweedhead Seagulls in a high scoring affair at the Kalabond oval in Kokopo, East New Britain Province with a convincing thirty six to twenty six win.
The hunters had been looking for a much improved performance against Tweedhead, and did just that leading early with two converted tries early in the match.
The seagulls fought back, and trailed by 6 points soon after. While the hunters maintained a tight line and showed determination in defence, did on occasion allow their opponents much more ground and territory.
While the Seagulls would not be daunted by Kalabond’s reputation and pressed forward again and again, it was the Hunter’s tenacity and never-say-die attitude that pulled them through, increasing the margin with well worked tries.
That win places the Hunters in a higher position on the ladder and should bring added confidence to a team that only a fortnight ago had been blasted by Coach Michael Marum for over-confidence and complacency which had seen them lose two games in a row.
