Hela Provincial Government released nearly K20 million for school fee assistance in its education sector. Hela Governor, Philip Undialu, says the funds has been cutback due to outstanding royalties and benefits withheld by the National Government.
Governor Undialu says Hela will depend on its human resource in the future. “The oil and gas project will come to a stop one day, human resource will make or break Hela’s development”, said Undialu.
Undialu says a chunk of Hela’s grants from the national purse remains unaccounted for. He says the K6 million is part of the IDG funds. Tari Pori MP, James Marape, says the welfare of the Province will bank entirely on its level of education.
He spoke of the increase in number of girls passing out of Hela schools to tertiary institutions. “There are more girls in school in Tari, we must support this sector to develop our province”, said Marape.
Marape says despite the political hype and lawlessness in Hela, its education sector will be supported.
Meanwhile Hela leaders want a data system created by public servants to minor the number of students passing through the formal education system and compare the level of education in Hela.
