Heavy Downpour Leave Commuters Stranded

Commuters and motorists along the Lae-Madang Highway are left stranded between Dumpu and Ramu after the heavy downpour on Thursday and Friday has caused Yuria River to flood its banks making it difficult for vehicles to cross.

Passengers were forced to carry their luggage and cross the flooded river to catch another PMV on the other side of the river to either travel to Madang or Lae.

Yuria bridge that once stood had collapsed in 2019 and has not been fixed since.

The traveling public has expressed their concern over the delay by the national government through the department of works in fixing the bridge.
