Grand Chief Laid To Rest

Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was finally laid to rest at Kreer heights in Wewak yesterday. 

The people of East Sepik, Family, friends, and other dignitaries were present to witness the father of the nation lowered into a tomb on a property he began building several years ago for his final resting place. 

Earlier, school children lined the road from the foot of Kreer Heights to the residence.

The soldiers and police stood guard as the hearse carrying the casket was taken through. 

PNG Defence force Commander, Gilbert Toropo presented a Papua New Guinea flag to Lady Veronica. 

He said Sir Michael Raised this flag on September 16th, 1975.

“We are proud of him. Thank you, Thank you.”
