During Questions Without Notice in Parliament this afternoon, a number of queries were put forward regarding the state of roads in the country as well as vehicle regulation.
Member for Ijivitari, David Arore, asked the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Malakai Tabar, about the nationwide monitoring of heavy vehicles.
Arore’s significant question was delivered today, in light of the recent accident which happened in the Northern Province.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Malakai Tabar, admitted that there has been an uncoordinated approach to heavy vehicles. He said a number of amendments will be brought before parliament to be passed. Mr Tabar said there will be heavy vehicle and truck inspection stations.
Still on roads, Member for Telefomin, Solan Mirisim, also asked the Prime Minister about the Telefomin road project.
Mr O’Neill said Cabinet yesterday approved funding for this project from Tax Credit Schemes. He said it will also address maintenance programs for all national roads throughout Papua New Guinea.
