Officers from the Department of Finance will soon offer a program at the University of Papua New Guinea facilitated by the Institute of Public Administration that will further their education in public sector accounting.
This was made possible today when the Department of Finance and UPNG signed a memorandum of agreement that will further the education of provincial and district treasurers and other government workers.
The degree program will help in building human resource capacity with tailored academic and competency-based training programs aimed at improving public finance management.
This agreement will see UPNG provide a degree program in developing public service professionals in the field of public sector accounting, auditing, business management, commerce and public policy.
Dr Ngangan says this is the government’s aim; to move all funds allocated for the provinces and the districts to the people.
Thirty officers from the Department of Finance, specifically from the provincial and district treasuries around the country have been nominated and will undergo training next year.
The new degree in public sector accounting will officially be launched by UPNG at the commencement of the 2015 academic year.
