In a significant achievement for agriculture in East Sepik Province, Lakwi Marketing and Produce Limited has announced its first-ever export of turmeric marking a proud moment for local farmers and the region’s economy.
The shipment, totalling 10,000 metric tonnes, is now en route to India, making East Sepik the first province in Papua New Guinea to export turmeric overseas, joining the ranks of traditional exports like cocoa and coffee.
This breakthrough is a result of the strong partnership between Lakwi Marketing and Produce and the Division of Agriculture and Livestock, who provided technical support and guidance.
Speaking at a small ceremony, Managing Director Mr. David Kwamilon thanked the East Sepik Provincial Administration and the Agriculture Division for their support.
He said the export not only showcase the high quality of local produce, but also highlights the collaborative effort of all stakeholders involved.
“This export not only signifies our product’s entry into international markets, but also emphasizes the collaborative spirit of our local farmers, government agencies, and private entities. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter economic future for East Sepik Province,” said Mr. Kwamilon.
This export marks a promising start to expanding East Sepik’s agricultural reach and ensuring that local farmers benefit from international opportunities.
