Eastern Highlands Province To Address Climate Change

Eastern Highlands Province has great plans to use the Green Economy initiative to address Climate Change in the province.

This was revealed this week by Governor, Julie Soso, during the swearing-in ceremony of the Provincial Climate Change Committee this week.

 

Ms. Soso said Green economy promotes an alternative and sustainable way of doing business that is environmentally friendly. 

 

According to Ms Soso, the province has plans in reforestation, renewable energy initiatives in solar and wind power to help local districts overcome climate change.

 

The Office of Climate Change and Development (OCCD) Executive Director, Mr Varigini Badira, said this while congratulating the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government in taking the Green Economy initiatives seriously, to addressing Climate Change in the province.

 

Eastern Highlands is one of the several provinces in the country to set up a Provincial Climate Committee.

 

Meanwhile, officers from the Office of Climate Change and Development are in Madang to host a consultative workshop on saving the forest and collecting data from industries for evaluation.
