In response to the action taken by Landowners of the PNGLNG Plant site, Petroleum & Energy Minister, Nixon Duban, has called for the people to respect the process.
In a statement received by EMTV News, Duban has acknowledged the delay in royalty payments for the affected communities, but has also called on them to respect the work being done by respective agencies.
According to Duban, the Department of Petroleum & Energy, together with Mineral Resources Development Company, MRDC, have already commenced the process in identifying the genuine landowners, which will in turn allow these benefits to be paid out.
He has therefore instructed the Acting Secretary of DPE to meet with landowners, and to assure them of the government’s commitment to the people.
Whilst this is ongoing, Duban has appealed to the people in the affected villages to work together with the state to find an amicable solution.
