Doctor says Early Detection of Cancer is Vital

While a debate rages over the lack of attention given to the National Cancer Treatment Centre in Lae, more light is being shed on other important areas that need help.

Dr. Christopher Kenyhercz, the Chief Executive Officer of Angau Hospital, says more awareness and understanding is needed in the early detection of cancers.

While awareness can be done in urban areas, it is much more difficult getting information out to rural areas.

It is estimated that cancer affects 8 percent of the population of Papua New Guinea, and that is over 600,000 people.
