Digicel PNG has switched on the first Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband service for Post-pay customers.
The LTE product is said to take internet service, and experience to a whole new level. The LTE is designed to deliver a superior internet service that allows users to surf, stream and download at very high speed.
Digicel PNG CEO, John Mangos said there’s a real demand for network speed in PNG, and Digicel is prepared to take lead in meeting this demand by introducing the latest technology in the form of 4G LTE.
Ten sites are already available in Port Moresby for users while Lae and other provinces will follow soon, added Mr Mangos. The sites in Port Moresby include, Gordons, Savannah Heights, Ela Beach, Hanuabada, Touaguba Hill, Ela Makana, Konedobu, Water Front Food World, ANG House and Deloitte Tower in town.
Customers will have a simple plug and play high speed internet connection, that can move between buildings and provide shared internet in offices and apartments. They will be able to share one LTE connection wirelessly with multiple users, provided that they have LTE coverage in the area.
Compatible devices like MiFi units and Routers, are now available at selected Digicel retail outlets starting from K399. Some smart phones are already LTE enabled, such as the iPhone 5, and Samsung Galaxy S4.
LTE is a 4th Generation (4G) mobile technology designed to deliver a faster and stronger wireless broadband internet service, than the current technology such as 3G+.
