Customs Appeal for Assistance from Border Villages

By Stanley Ove Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

PNG Customs Service is appealing to people in Vanimo, Sandaun Province to report any illegal activities they see happening along the PNG-Indonesia Border. Border Management Director, Miana Tau-Mabone, said illegal activities are happening on a daily basis between Vanimo and Jayapura, Indonesia, and is calling for communities and individuals to support PNG Customs.

“I appeal to people along the border, please report any form of illegal activities. Report any customs officers that are not doing their job, report any activities that are suspicious,” Mabone said.

The appeal comes after a boat smuggling goods and prohibited items into Yako Village was apprehended by PNG Customs last Thursday.

“These activities are happening on a daily basis and we need the cooperation of the communities to help stop these activities,” Mabone said.

People are encouraged to call the PNG Customs Hotline ‘Was Man Service’ on 7091 9000.
“We have a toll free number, please call and report if you see any illegal activities,” Mabone said.
