The Chairman of Cricket Papua New Guinea, has delivered a message of recognition and encouragement to women in cricket and across the country.

As the world marked International Women’s Day yesterday March 08, 2026, CPNG Chairman Michael Harrison, extended warm greetings to cricket fans and communities while acknowledging the courage, resilience and achievements of women both in Papua New Guinea and around the world.

Harrison said cricket in PNG has become more than just a sport, describing it as a platform that connects communities, develops life skills and creates opportunities for young people.

He also commended the achievements of the national women’s cricket team, the PNG Lewas, for their dedication and inspiring performances on the international stage.

According to Harrison, the success of the Lewas has encouraged many young girls in villages and urban centres to take up the sport and pursue their dreams.

He said International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that gender equality must continue to be promoted across all sectors, including sport.

Harrison added that Cricket PNG remains committed to strengthening grassroots programs, improving access to facilities and creating equal opportunities for girls who wish to play cricket.

He said empowering women in sport not only strengthens the game but also inspires communities and future generations.

Harrison concluded by urging players, supporters and leaders to continue championing equality, respect and opportunity for women in cricket and beyond.
