Committee to Develop National Housing Policy

Members of the Steering Committee met for the first time this week to begin the process in developing the country’s new housing policy.

This committee is made up of representatives from the agencies under the ministry, as well as from National Planning, Treasury and Department of Implementation & Rural Development.

Housing & Urbanisation Minister, John Kaupa, was present at this initial meeting, reassuring committee members that the government was committed in having the policy completed in a timely manner.

The policy will provide the guidelines on how to deal with housing issues, especially in major centres.

The members of the committee were challenged to ensure that a sound policy for housing was in place, which could be in the years ahead.

If the National Housing Policy is developed, it will be the first major policy paper in addressing housing in over 23 years – which according to Minister Kaupa, is long overdue.
