Visiting Chief of United Nations Development Program Helen Clark reiterated her organizations move to help capacity building in Papua New Guinea.
She said UNDP is particularly interested in working at the Provincial Government Level, to support capacity building and monitoring.
She also spoke of further developing a workable framework on UN REDD Initiative.
This was Helen Clark’s first visit as head of the UN Development program.
Her visit also included beautiful East New Britain Province. There she met a woman learning about financial literacy.
She was in the country for three days focused on the country’s development priorities and UNDP’S role in supporting them.
Meeting with senior government officials and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on how to effectively co-ordinate aid, and to ensure development strategies make the best use of PNG’s resource wealth to support growth which is socially equitable and environmentally sustainable.
She expounded on the UNDP’s strategy aimed at building capacity at the provincial level.
The UN’s redd plus initiative was also high on the agenda. The UN keen on ensuring PNG maintains its support of the initiative.
Clark also met with women leaders and champions of gender equality.
A former Prime Minister of New Zealand for three consecutive terms. Helen Clark brings a wealth of experience in development and peace building.
