The national Government will embark on programs with churches to address escalating social issues within communities in Papua New Guinea.
Community Development, Youth and Religion Minister, Delilah Gore, says churches provide the only solution through its programs.
“Church programs will have more impact to people in the community,” said Gore.
Minister Gore made this statement in the presence of leaders of the main stream churches, at a gathering yesterday in Port Moresby.
Acknowledging the role churches have played in providing education and health services, Minister Gore says social issues will also be the focus.
The minister believes redefined policies and initiatives provided with the dialogue with churches will address lingering issues, especially gender based violence, sorcery, and child abuse.
“Churches are always with the people and we believe partnering with churches will be vital to address the ongoing social issues”, said Minister Gore.
Minister Gore made these statements yesterday in a handover ceremony from Planning Minister Charles Abel for the State Church Partnership Program.
