Bumbu Market Community called upon to apprehend stone-throwing suspects

Five suspects who were involved in a stone-throwing incident in Lae’s Bumbu Market area have been identified as the sons of vendors, Lae’s Acting Metropolitan Commander, Christopher Kunyanban stated. Mr. Kunyanban is urging people along this area to refrain from throwing stones at vehicles as this might result in the closure of the market.

He says a lot of vendors depend on the Bumbu or 13A market to earn an income and this would affect them.

“If they continue to do that we will close the market and that will have detrimental effects and consequences on to the surrounding villages and settlements.

The incident resulted in stones being thrown at the vehicles with some passengers injured.

Last week Thursday, several vehicles were stoned by people at the Bumbu market area where one of the PMV’s was loaded with passengers. The windows were smashed and some of the passengers got injured.

According to witnesses, stones and other weapons were also used.

Police are urging community members to cooperate in apprehending those suspects.
