Bulolo Returning Officer Calls On Candidates and Supporters to Focus on Leadership

The Returning Officers from the nine districts in Morobe are preparing their officers for polling.

The  Electoral Commission has marked the date to start from 24th of June to the 08th of July.

But, the Returning Officer for Bulolo, Raune Jombert says, the district is in need of Police assistance, due to few candidates and their supporters rowdy behaviour during the week.

While in Tewae-Siassi District, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force is already on ground to assist with election awareness in the district.

The Returning Officer for Bulolo District, Raune Jombert said the need of security is a major concern.

He said few candidates and supporters in the district are causing disorder and violence during this campaign period.

The Returning Officer called on the candidates and supporters to focus on leadership, rather than disruption of democratic processes.

Meanwhile, Electoral Commission officers in Lae district have finalised the temporary election workers, who would be trained in few weeks time as polling and counting officials, including the candidates’ scrutineers.

While this is progressing, Returning Officer for Lae, Daniel Wasinek, appealed to candidates to refrain from disturbing other candidates.

He said the candidates should also educate their supporters to do the same, until return of writs on 24th July.

In Menyamya district, the Returning Officer, Mande Awape, says with the current road conditions, may affect the delivering of election results effectively.

Awape also stated that there was an incident where election officials were threatened by candidates.

He said action will be taken against these candidates once a full report is finalised.
