Boxers in the PNG National Team are being fully prepared to take on their international opponents eight days out from the scheduled Lamana Fight Night to be held on Saturday the 31st of May.
Under the watchful eyes of trainer Ricky Berua and Director Dick Larry, the team is primed and fit for fighting.
Rhythm, power, strength, and very fast feet, are all key aspects in the sport of boxing. The boxers in the select-side of the national team show that they possess each of these and much more as they prepare to take on some of Australia’s best amateur boxers.
Of the twenty boxers so far in training, only thirteen will be selected; ten men and three ladies.
Tournament director Dick Larry, who is overseeing training on behalf of the national coach, is happy with the progress so far.
PNG boxers in the past have struggled against international opponents but Dick is adamant that preparation for this team has been on track with focus on how overseas styles differ from local technique.
A handful of medal prospects for the Pacific Games are part of the contingent for the fight night and judging by the intensity of their training, their opponents will be up for a challenge.
