East Sepik Governor Allan Bird is appealing to the Prime Minister and the government to review the allocation of funds for the inspection of the Coffee Berry Borer in the Highlands region.
Speaking in parliament during question time yesterday, Mr. Bird said if there is not enough attention given to mitigating its effect on coffee in the Highlands region, it could mean many local farmers would lose their only means of direct revenue.
The government had allocated K5 million in its supplementary budget, which will serve for three to four months.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill reassured Parliament that the Government would be allocating more funding for this in the 2018 National Budget expected in November.
