East Sepik Provincial member Allan Bird has advised Papua New Guineans to remain calm while hoping for a successful vote of no confidence (VONC).
Mr. Bird while highlighting the country’s issues such as power, policing, water, jobs and economic policy, cost of living, foreign exchange and others stating,

He said the success of a VONC depends on how uncomfortable MPs are. Prime ministers have already worked that out. Give MPs whatever they want and theoretically, you could be PM forever. Pass laws that lock you in, and boom, no more accountability.
“To me, it doesn’t matter who replaces Marape. We just need someone who will give the nation space to breath, to calm down, to rethink to start again. We already know what to expect from this Government. We can’t have more of the same.” Bird said.
“Our people want a reset in leadership because it will give them hope. It will allow them to breath again. They have been patient with this government for 6 years. They can’t endure anymore. They want a change.”
So, while we all hope for the best, we have to be prepared for the worst outcomes. Things will get worse before they get better.
They control the security forces and they control the Electoral Commissioner. They amended the law, increased retirement age so they can keep the same Electoral Commissioner. Ask yourself why.
Don’t be fooled, changes to the law are only about protecting their personal interest. Nothing to do with your interest as a struggling PNGans.
Remember, they are a small number, around 80 MPs, we can’t let them win. We have to keep fighting, keep resisting and we do so without violence and with intelligence, 80 MPs can’t outsmart all 10 million of us.” Bird said.
