Basketball teams in Daru have started playing their proper season in both men’s and women’s premier division.
The code has produced some of the best basketball players in the past that have represented Daru and the country.
Selections are underway to recruit raw talent to represent Daru during the PNG Games later this year.
Basketball enthusiasts in Daru gathered and watched their teams with excitement as they played hard to shoot and dunk the ball; defense was pretty tough to overcome.
The first round saw the ladies play in A grade division.
Great momentum was showed by each teams and the ladies showed great ball-passing and handling skills while aiming to shoot the basket. Following the women’s game was the Mens A grade teams.
Unlike the ladies, the men impressed the audience with awesome ball-handling techniques in a hard play to get the basket. Momentum was fierce in the court, but the teams knew each other’s weaknesses in scouting themselves a basket.
President Bagari David says he is happy to the see the community of young men and women getting involved in the game.
The tournament, which started in March, saw up to 13 teams, both male and female, in the proper season. This season alone so far has attracted many students to participate in tournament.
Selections for the PNG games have already been finalized, but President Bagari David says that although we have our teams selected, we still need to do few more alterations in order to fully qualify the final teams with room for improvement.
