Baruni Death

A man bled to death after his younger brother stoned him in his sleep. The wife of the deceased, Kewa Kate, said the argument was over royalty payments for the Telikom and Digicel towers at the Tapini station in the Goilala District.

Police confirmed that the incident happened yesterday morning, however, the family could not afford to transport the deceased to the nearest hospital, and he died this morning.

 

The late Kisto Turu died this morning, as his wife and 2 children looked on beside their News at the Baruni dump in the Moresby North West electorate.

 

Gerehu Police Station Commander Chief Sergeant, Hohoves Kora, said the incident occurred yesterday around 10am; however, the family did not have any money to transport the deceased to the Gerehu hospital, which is just some 5 minutes’ drive from Baruni dump, for treatment. 

 

Inspector Kora said so far, 3 deaths have been recorded from this community relating to alcohol and drug abuse.

 

He said the community is cooperating, however, the youths continue to cause problems for the community, the electorate and motorists along the highway from Gerehu to town.

 

Meanwhile, the community called on concerned authorities and their political leader and Minister for Health and HIV and AIDS, Michael Malabag, to assist them improve their lives by providing them electricity and water.

 

They also appealed to the minister to get the youths involved in community work and other programs to keep them occupied and away from trouble and causing disharmony in the community, electorate and the general public.
