The incident happened around 2am in the morning, when 30 armed men broke into the Nadzab terminal. The security guards on duty were held at gunpoint.

They were blindfolded, with their legs and arms tied together and were locked in a separate room while the criminals took valuables.

Three restaurants and the baggage storerooms for Air Niugini and Travel Air were both ransacked. Some passengers transiting through Nadzab were also robbed of their baggage and other valuables.

The Travel Air office was also robbed, with four laptops and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen.

EM TV was not allowed to film inside the Air Niugini office; however, eyewitnesses say the criminals were trying to remove the cash vault.

Police arrived late but could not do much as the suspects had escaped the scene. Flights in and out of Lae were delayed for a couple of hours as authorities were trying to get the place in order for operation.

The provincial police commander of Morobe could not be reached at this stage but EM TV was informed that CID police officers are investigating the incident.
