Steamships Trading Company (Steamships) launched its Community Grants Program for 2017, a program that will allocate support by way of cash or kind to organisations that work effortlessly in areas of health, education and social welfare.

Steamships is inviting formal applications for programs delivering real impact in the following areas:

  • Improving health through programs to combat disease and enhance health standards.
  • Raising education standards and improving literacy.
  • Empowering and protecting women, children and the most marginalised in society.

According to the its website, Steamships sets aside a budget for the purpose of awarding community grants, in line with the company’s Community Engagement Strategy, and the Community Grants and In-kind Donations Programme, each year.

The aim is to identify grant recipients, whose projects and activities will most effectively deliver results against the principles and desired outcomes of the Community Engagement Strategy, and also will bring significant and measurable positive impact to the target communities.

Steamships Managing Director, Peter Langslow, said, “We have donated more than K10 million over the past five years in our ‘Community Engagement’ efforts, and there’s no doubt that we’ve seen a lot of wonderful work done by those we have supported.”

“We hope our new approach will help Steamships make more informed funding decisions, and to target support to the most deserving schemes which will generate the greatest beneficial impact in the areas targeted,” He added.

Applications close on March 10.
