The New Zealand Government has given 15million New Zealand Dollars (K34 million) to PNG toward APEC preparations.
The aid will go towards Security and Logistic preparations.
New Zealand High Commissioner, Sue Mackwell, also confirmed New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern’s attendance to the APEC Leaders Summit in November.
Minister for APEC, Justin Tkatchenko today thanked the New Zealand government for the $15 Million offer.
“Thank you for the support and this will go a long way,” said Tkatchenko.
The aid will go to security preparation, logistics, and also an important security aspect, cybercrime policing.
“This will strengthen our relationship,” said the APEC Minister.
New Zealand High Commissioner, Sue Mackwell, said most of the funding will go to practical preparation, but if needed, it will also go to other needs for APEC.
“We are not assisting for security and logistics but protocol as well,” said Commissioner Mackwell.
A total of 12 New Zealand police have arrived in PNG to assist help in Security Preparations, and High Commissioner Mackwell also added the NZ military will also be on hand to assist during the Leaders’ summit.
“For maritime support, there will be off-shore patrols from our military,” said Commissioner Mackwell.
