ALCOHOL RELATED INJURIES INCREASED

Almost 98 per cent of all the injuries that have been recorded at the Port Moresby General Hospital’s emergency department were alcohol related.

A total of 40 cases were recorded, of which 80% of them were reported to be of the male gender.

A death was also recorded at the hospital over the New Year as a result of a car accident that occurred on New Year’s Day.

The New Year’s Eve was a little quiet for the Port Moresby General Emergency department until 8am, the next morning when most casualties started arriving at the hospital.

Most of the injured people came to the hospital with assault and blunt force trauma with penetrating injuries.

Port Moresby General Hospital thanked the national ambulance service provider St John Ambulance for the tireless work in transporting injured people to the hospital for treatments.

Port Moresby General Hospital management also thanked the police force for keeping the nation’s capital safe and ensuring that movements in the city were kept under control.
