A MALE SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MARIJUANA
Police officers attached to the checkpoint operations at the Yaibos Police checkpoint arrested a male suspect for transporting marijuana through Enga Province.
According to Enga Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent, Steven Harris, the police officers caught the suspect while conducting checkpoint operations where the suspect admitted to police he intended to transport the drugs to the coastal areas.
The suspect was formally arrested and brought to the Wabag Police Station where he would be charged accordingly.
PPC Harris stated that police continue to targeting drugs, alcohol related offences, illegal weapons and criminals throughout the province.
“Police are aware that alcohol and drugs contribute significantly to violence in our communities, including tribal fighting, assaults and other serious offences”, PPC Harris explained.
“Police are also aware that drugs are often exchanged for weapons and ammunition, which are then used by criminals in unlawful violence and other serious crimes.
Enga PPC made a strong statement that, Police in Enga do not negotiate with criminals, and we do not have mercy on criminals.
“If you are involved in drugs, illegal alcohol, weapons or violence, you will be arrested; charged; and you will go to Court,” PPC Harris said.
He added that the rule of law will prevail and his members are delivering on that.
“Police would continue doing highway checkpoints, Patrols, Search operations, arrest of drug dealers and transporters, and Seizure of illegal weapons and ammunitions”.
PPC Harris said, the members of the community must work together police and ensure that criminal activities are reported to the authorities.
