New Kid In Town: Pom Snooker Champ

The newly arrived Malaysian Marcus Ng, is the new Port Moresby Snooker Open champion.

Ng, who announced his credentials as the new kid in town, beat Kelly Yambi with 5-2 in the best of nine frames at the newly opened Dragon’s Den.

Both players showed some nerves and missed easy shots in their first major final. Yambi was the first to take control to rule out the first frame 57-47. In the second, third, and fourth frames, Ng started to string the breaks together, recording a 34 break in frame four to take a 3-1 lead.

Ng was the crowd’s favourite; as he was expected to run away with the match, however, Yambi with his never say die approach took out the fifth frame 59-26.

Forty eight players including defending champion Nathan Fong, and six time POM open winner and current PNG champion, Djorne Fong, all participated during the Easter Weekend.
