Courts Dismiss Corruption Proceedings Against Okapa MP

The Waigani National Court dismissed an election petition filed against Okapa MP Issac Waigavara.

Saki Soloma, runner up in the 2012 National Elections, alleged that illegal practices, errors, omissions and bribery were involved in the 2012 elections.

After months of legal battles, the court dismissed the entire proceeding last Thursday, and declared Mr Waigavara as the duly elected member for Okapa.

Mr Waigavara thanked his family and supporters, and called on the petitioner to help him develop Okapa, one of the least developed districts in Eastern Highlands Province.

He said the court has made its decision and he was now ready to go serve his people within the remaining two years before the 2017 National elections.

Member Waigavara polled 9731 votes ahead of Saki Soloma who came behind with 9086 votes.
