BSP And Community Mark World Earth Day

The official sponsor of the 2015 Pacific Games, BSP, under its Go Green initiative, held a community clean-up at Ela Beach yesterday in Port Moresby.

BSP Corporate Sponsorship Manager, Rosemary Mawe, said the clean-up was aimed at driving the message: “Keep Port Moresby city clean, green and healthy”.

Students from Ted Diro, Saint Michael, and Hagara Primary Schools also took part in the clean-up.

This small group were a part of more than one billion people from 190 countries and are expected to take part in activities to commemorate World Earth Day, which is marked annually on the 22nd of April.

“This year’s World Earth Day theme is “Green Cities”, and BSP is proud to take the lead in this event in Port Moresby, to reinforce the important message of keeping our cities clean, green and healthy,” Ms Mawe said.

BSP, together with the NCDC Waste Management Division, the 2015 Pacific Games team and members of Cricket PNG, all joined hands to mark World Earth Day 2014 with the clean-up.

The 2015 Pacific Games Mascot, Tura the Kokomo, also took part in the event, much to the delight of those who were present.

Ms. Mawe stressed that Port Moresby will play host to the 2015 Pacific Games and other international and regional events in 2015, and as such, everyone must take responsibility and ownership to ensure the city is kept in a clean and tidy state.
