Powes Happy With MSG Decision

NCD Governor and staunch advocator of the Free West Papua Movement Powes Parkop is overwhelmingly happy with the decision to include West Papua into the MSG.

He says yesterday’s announcement by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is a step in the right direction.

However, total inclusion will only come into effect once an agreement is reached between all West Papuans and the Indonesian Government.

Governor Parkop has been fighting for the West Papua cause since his high school days at Sogeri National High.

He said although some may not see it, yesterday’s announcement by the MSG to recognize West Papua after conditions are met was a major milestone.

He thanked the MSG leaders for their courage, stating that for too long they had been in the shadow of fear.

He says there are conditions but is confident that they will be met.

He is now on a mission to raise enough funds for a meeting in Port Villa in Vanuatu, where more progress on the road to self-determination will be discussed.

He revealed that he received calls from the Indonesian embassy expressing uneasiness upon hearing that the West Papuans would be taking part in the Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival. He told the embassy there was nothing to fear.

Although President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s term will end on the 9th of July this year, Governor Parkop says dialogue will continue with whoever the new President is.
