Moresby North East electorate in National Capital District has allocated K4.5 million for water projects in the district.
This is half of 2014's District Services Improvement Program funds.
Yesterday, the District administrator, Eremuge Sine, presented eight hundred thousand kina to Eda Ranu for water connection into Wildlife, Erima, and the second phase of the ATS water project.
The presentation yesterday at Eda Ranu’s boardroom in Port Moresby, was the first payment of the K4.5 million budgeted for water projects in Moresby North East Electorate.
This money will be paid to Eda Ranu for connecting water into settlements and villages in the electorate.
District Administrator, Eremuge Sine, said the Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee has realized the greater need for water in communities throughout the district.
Chief Executive Officer, Henry Mokono, urged water users to pay water rates, in order to keep the taps running in these communities.
Mokono said failure to pay for water rates, simply defeats the purpose and vision of elected members of parliament, bringing services to communities.
He further pointed out that the cost of putting water pipes is costly.
He said it is difficult to put water meters in settlements and villages, because these communities are not planned with proper sections and lot numbers.
Eda Ranu is encouraging settlement water users, to comply by paying water rates for their communal water taps.
