Efforts by the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and the Department of Mineral Policy and Geohazards Management, (DMPGM) to collect information about historical stone structures, are progressing well.
Recently, the team visited Isivita village, in the Sohe District of the Northern Province, to collect information about a stone that portrayed the transition from primitive ways of the Isivita ancestors before the introduction of religion.
It’s not just an ordinary old story but is significant in the transformation of lives of the people. Team Leader, Arnold Lakamanga, said the stone tells of a transition in life by the ancestors of the Isivita people.
So far, the collection of information about stones in Niugini Islands, Southern and Momase have been completed. The MRA team will visit the Highlands region this weekend, starting with Jiwaka as the first province.
All information collected will be published in a book under a project initiated by the Coordinating Committee of Geosciences Programs (CCOP) in East & South-East Asia.
The book will be launched in December this year, and will be distributed as a resource book to all educational institutions around the country.
