Jiwaka Issues: Governor Tongamp Accused

A group from Jiwaka province accusing Jiwaka governor, Dr.William Tongamp of misappropriation, has laid formal complaints against the governor.

This group alleges that the governor has misappropriated K6 million of the provincial government money.

The group has approached the Ombudsman Commission, the fraud squad, and the Task Force Sweep Team, regarding this allegation. This group from Jiwaka consisting former politicians, senior states man, travelled all the way to Port Moresby to raise their concern on certain issues in the province.

William Wii, a former member of parliament, alleges that there has been gross misappropriation and want authority to investigate the complaint.

Supporting him was former premier, Simon Koiam, who says all decision undertaken by the provincial government, is not legitimate because there is no proper Provincial Executive Council in place, therefor this could result in public money being mismanaged.

These groups are calling on the government through the Finance and Treasury ministries, to withdraw the financial powers of the provincial government.

The man accused in this allegation, Dr.William Tongamp, wants the accusers to check the facts with the provincial treasury, to substantiate their claims. While welcoming public scrutiny, governor Tongamp, said criticisms must be a collective view of the people of Jiwaka.

He said as governor, he is entitled to provincial allowances thus the cheques paid out to under the provincial government account. Governor Tongamp also made mention that the allocation for 2013, was K121 million, and the K6 million allegation is not quite clear.
