The people of Baining in the Gazelle District have a new LLG Chamber.
At the cost of K4 million under the DSIP Capacity Building, the chamber is among some of the developments currently taking place in the District. The development is in line with the Five Year District Development plan, launched by the National Planning Minister, Charles Abel, in Baining recently.
The high powered delegation included Minister Abel, Treasurer, Patrick Pruaitch, and Correctional Service Minister, Jimmy Simitab. Members of parliament from East New Britain were also present.
The Five Year District Plan 2013 – 2017, is aimed at transforming Gazelle into a wealthy, healthy and prosperous district. National Planning Minister, Charles Abel, told that the country needs to strategically plan for all sectors in order to impact the people at the village level.
He said, East New Britain was one of the top provinces in terms of implementing sustainable programs, and was one of the provinces with high living standards. Gazelle District Development Plan targets the socio – economic development, where the needs of the people were captured in the plan.
The plan is worth over K640 million, and also has been allocated to various sectors, infrastructure, health and education. Half of the budget K300 million, has been allocated to construct New Britain Highway Project, while K100 million to construct bridges and jetties. K90 million will be used for Kerevat Town development, and to develop Lassul/Mandress Road.
The developments are anticipated to promote accountability, equality and effective resource distribution for the people of Gazelle and East New Britain.
