Mt Kare LOs Want Government To Legitimise Rightful Ownership

A court battle over the identification and mapping of landowner groups in Mt Kare, Enga, has dragged into its tenth year.

A frustrated chairman of the Mt Kare management, Albert Alibe said a recent media release published in one of the dailies (Post Courier) is misleading and has caused tension among legitimate landowners.

He said the report is not true and was copied from a previous report with alterations in certain land groups. “MRA and [the] Lands Department must not take heed of the report,” added Alibe.

Chairman Albert Alibe is calling on the Mineral Resource Authority and Lands Department to hear their cry; if not, millions could be paid to paper landowners.

Chairman Alibe said the project’s escalation has caused environmental damage and if payments are made to paper landowners, it will be a big slap to legitimate landowners.

He says people in the village are frustrated but leaders have managed to control youths to be mindful of their actions.
