The remote people of Paiala-Hewa District in Enga Province, will soon have access to a better road network after living in isolation for over 20 years.
This comes after Lagaip Porgera MP, Nixon Mangape purchased heavy equipment to maintain road from Porgera to Kolombi station. Mr Mangape said over K2 million from 2013 DSIP funds, were used to purchase two excavators, one bulldozer, and a service vehicle.
The machines will be deployed to do the 30 kilometer road to serve over sixteen thousand people in the district. Mr Mangape is aiming to link all rural roads in the district, and bring other services to the locals.
MP Mangape said after completing the 30km from Porgera to Paiala station, the machines will be deployed to maintain the Mungulep-Yuyan road, Kairik Tamakale road, Porgera/Paiala ring road, and the Tipinini Taipoko road which were neglected for years.
He said additional equipment will be purchased to construct and rehabilitate all other roads in the district. The MP said road was very important for people to have access to government services and cannot be ignored. “When you have a better road access, other government services like health, education, law and order, agriculture activities and so on falls in line.
