Loujaya On Lae School Fights

Lae MP and Minister for Welfare and Community Development, Loujaya Kouza, says a set of recommendations to address school fights in Lae is in the possession of the education department.

The report outlines the causes and possible solutions to the problem. The Minister however, needs appropriate authorities to recommend the next cause of action.

The spill over from a student fight on Friday drew attention from the Morobe Provincial Executive Council who have directed the schools to expel students concerned.

This afternoon, the Lae MP Loujaya Kouza had her say on the matter. In 2013, she passed on a report containing a set of recommendations to the education minister. Ministers changed and the report has not yet been acted upon.

The Lae MP says those charged with the responsibility of implementing those recommendations have to come back to her on what to fund, and what to do.

Slowly, more information is becoming available on how those groups are involved in the violence and how the violence is organized.

Community leaders say there is still very little understanding on the part of parents on how involved their kids are in the violence.
